Welcome to LoongTeX, a small garden in the research community with a bit of "ambition". Frankly speaking, we didn't initially think about creating any grand narrative about "changing the world". It started with a particularly simple question: Why does writing a paper have to be like climbing Mount Everest? Research is already competitive enough, can't writing be less of a hassle?

So I gathered a group of tech enthusiasts who both love and hate research and LaTeX— Some write code like poetry, some enjoy fixing bugs until 3 AM and find it fun. We came together and simply did something different: LoongTeX was born this way.

⚠️ We're not trying to "disrupt" anyone, really not. We just wondered if we could create a tool that isn't complicated, isn't dumb, doesn't lag, and looks decent. When you open it, your thought shouldn't be "Ugh, I have to write again", but "OK, let's write".

Whether you're a research "newbie🙄" just starting with LaTeX, or an "old hand🤔" who can write macros with your eyes closed, LoongTeX hopes to be your good companion on your research journey.

We can't guarantee you'll fall in love with writing papers, but at least you won't hate it as much. If one day, while staying up late to meet a deadline, you suddenly think "Hey, this tool is quite handy", then it's all worth it.

What is LoongTeX​

LoongTeX｜Dragon Text is a next-generation LaTeX platform tailor-made for researchers. We don't use those exaggerated "writing magic" marketing slogans, nor are we here to compete on UI. We have just one goal: to make writing papers no longer as troublesome as building a rocket, but as natural and convenient as opening your phone to jot down a memo.

You can think of LoongTeX as a "research operating system" that integrates whiteboard + research notes + paper writing + cloud collaboration. No need to configure a bunch of environment variables, no need to fiddle with various templates and macros locally. Open your browser, import a template, start writing—it's that simple.

We know you want to save time, and we know you don't want to be held back by the "tool" itself. So, we brought in AI—not the kind that's just a slogan "AI-powered", but actually usable—able to chat with you, understand your literature, and help you organize your logic.

After extensive research, we've summarized several scenarios where users often utilize LoongTeX:

The Opportunity for LoongTeX's Birth​

LoongTeX was founded based on a simple yet profound idea: writing papers can also become simple, fast, efficient, and even fun.

Through years of work, we found that most people haven't developed the habit of recording ideas. This isn't because they're lazy, but because current tools and methods have fallen into a misconception—either blindly pursuing better "writing experiences" or obsessing over designing more complex "knowledge connection" features.

However, most note-taking tools seem to forget one fact: those who can become writers are ultimately few, while those who need to think and record are increasing. Compared to how to organize knowledge and write beautiful articles, what we often lack more is more frequent recording and the deep thinking triggered by these records.

You've probably heard Marshall McLuhan's old saying countless times: "We shape our tools, and thereafter our tools shape us." It sounds like a philosophy class opening line, but it actually hits a real pain point.

What LoongTeX does, to put it simply: We don't do those dazzling "AI-generated" illusions, nor do we want to create an empty shell that just adds a few LaTeX templates and calls itself a platform. We focus on just one thing—making every sentence you write not sink like a stone to the bottom of the information sea, but truly accumulate and become the foundation of your research life.

You're not writing a one-time submission draft, not a perfunctory proposal report, but pieces of organically growing content that link to each other, inspire each other, and ultimately build your own research knowledge graph. This isn't an exaggeration; this is what LoongTeX is seriously doing.

Tools are never cold "software"—the longer you use them, the more they become part of you. What LoongTeX wants to do is become that "digital brain" you can't live without but never feel redundant.

Ultimately, what we want to solve isn't "how to make typesetting prettier", but "how to make sure you don't write in vain".

The Philosophy Behind LoongTeX​

Why did we create LoongTeX? To solve the problems we encountered when collaboratively writing papers, and by doing so, empower all scientists and technical writers with the power of LaTeX at every stage of their careers.

Most technological and medical innovations in the world start with a scientific paper. Over 2 million scientific papers are published each year, along with many more technical reports and presentations. Scientists in academia and industry spend a lot of time writing, reviewing, and publishing these papers; this is much administrative and clerical work. We saw a way to help save time on these tasks, making the entire academic collaboration process easier and more effective.

Beyond academia, society increasingly looks to science to address today's most pressing social challenges. If we are to face complex health issues, an aging population, and the world's digital transformation, we need science that is faster, more open, more trustworthy, and more meaningful to citizens. We are helping to achieve this.

What LoongTeX Is Not Good At​

⚖️ Not Pursuing Every Feature​

LoongTeX understands that not all features are suitable for our platform. We won't blindly pursue covering all possible needs but focus on providing researchers with the tools they need most. For features unrelated to our core mission, we choose to let go, allowing users to find the support they need on other more suitable platforms.

🙅‍♂️ Not Participating in Social Media Noise​

We focus on research and collaboration, not chasing social media trends. LoongTeX is not good at creating so-called "social" features. We believe research requires a focused and calm environment, not noise and distractions. The tools we provide are to help users focus on their research work, not distract them.

🛑 Not Trying to Be Everything​

We know our original intention and don't plan to become a comprehensive platform. LoongTeX focuses on the academic field, especially research collaboration, literature management, and collaborative writing. For areas beyond our expertise, we choose not to venture into them because we believe focus provides an excellent user experience.

⏳ Not Pursuing Short-Term Gains​

LoongTeX refuses to sacrifice long-term user value for short-term gains. We won't make decisions contrary to our core values just to attract more users. Our goal is to build a sustainable platform that provides long-term support and services to researchers.

The Story Behind LoongTeX​

LoongTeX's birth stems from a personal experience story. My wife needed to use LaTeX to write her academic dissertation while preparing her PhD thesis. However, to use LaTeX on a computer, not only did she need to install a series of complex software, but these software interfaces were also very outdated, as if stuck in the last century. At the same time, we found that while we could choose the online platform Overleaf, its expensive cost was a significant burden for many researchers. And domestically, there wasn't a single similar product.

All this made me realize that researchers are actually a niche and often overlooked group. Although their work is crucial to social development, few large companies are willing to develop a modern, stylish-interface, technologically advanced tool for their needs.

As a software development engineer, I decided to change this situation. Since no one was willing to do it, I would do it myself. Thus, LoongTeX was born—a collaboration platform specifically designed for researchers, aiming to provide integrated research tools to help them conduct research and writing more efficiently.

LoongTeX's goal is not only to make research simpler but more importantly to make researchers feel that their needs are seen and valued. We hope that through LoongTeX, researchers can focus on their research without being troubled by tool usage.

LoongTeX Team Background​

LoongTeX's founding team brings together top talents from the Institute of Computing Technology of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, the National Astronomical Observatories, and a well-known domestic research data company (boasting🐮). Our team members not only have deep research backgrounds but also have some entrepreneurial experience. We deeply understand the importance of elegant and convenient writing platforms for research and are well aware of the complexity of the current Chinese research environment (being honest).

In the future, writing research papers will no longer be a lengthy process starting from scratch. Based on this understanding, we rethought the way research writing is done and created new tools aimed at helping researchers publish high-quality articles better and faster. LoongTeX's goal is not only to support researchers' daily work but also to help them go further and steadier in their journey exploring the stars and seas.
